Michigan Supports BVL
Metro Detroit USBC
When the Metro Detroit USBC decided to do something to help BVL, they decided to go big. And, thanks to all the efforts of BVL Chairperson Laura Dembek and her fellow members, they went big AND successful, raising over $2,650 to help Americas service men and women.
In their inaugural event on Veterans Day weekend, they attracted 70 participants, held a raffle and sold merchandise. In addition 19 local businesses and individuals were lane sponsors. The event was held at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights, MI.
Donations were also received from several leagues including the Afternooners, Dearborn Recreations Ladies, S & B Ladies Classic and Luxury Lanes Invitational Classic.
THANKS to Metro Detroit USBC for remembering the sacrifices of Americas veterans.
John Unger and Mark Sedlar
Saginaw, Michigan
Thanks to two enterprising bowlers and the generosity of the league members of Saginaw, Michigan, Christmas this year was a little merrier for area children of military service men and women. Thats because John Unger, President of the State Lanes Wednesday Merchants & Industrial League, and Mark Sedlar, Secretary of the Saginaw Bowling Assoc., spearheaded the efforts of a league program to raise money for children of military servicemen and women. Once the money was collected, John and Mark purchased $50.00 Christmas Gift Cards from an area toy store.
Then, prior to the start of league bowling on Wednesday, December 7, the league presented seventeen gift cards to the kids or parents. Everything went perfectly, reports Saginaw bowler Pat Mahoney. Many thanks were given to our bowlers for the gift cards to the kids. A few happy tears were shed as we passed them out and said "Merry Christmas" to the families. Pat credits John and Mark for taking this project on and making 17 Saginaw area military families happier. Concludes Pat, It was our bowlers way of giving back, and supporting our military families that give up so much during the Holidays.
Kudos to John and Mark for making a difference!
