When BVL came calling
Jackson County answered.
In December 2008, BVL asked USBC associations to help boost collections with a special effort called Help our Heroes for the Holidays. The Jackson County USBC didnt hesitate. The request barely hit association manager Mary Eplins desk when she went to the Board, which immediately agreed to help out.
Weve always been a big supporter of BVL, explains Mary. But with the merger, it just seems a lot has been in the way of our regular BVL fund-raising. When we saw this, it just gave us the reminder that we want to keep supporting BVL. Here on the coast, we have a number of VA hospitals and we know that BVL is really needed.
Things havent been quiet for the Jackson County USBC. Mary continues, In addition to the merger, weve had many bowlers who havent recuperated from Katrina which hit our area hard. But were not going to forget BVL well get everything ironed out and our regular fund-raising back on track soon!
Thanks to the Jackson County USBC, theyve showed that whatever lies ahead for them they will always remember the service and sacrifice of our veterans. Heres to you!

Mississippi BVL Co-Chair Jolene Dorman gives victory sign
in support of our veterans.
Jolene Dorman, Jackson, Miss.
Jolene Dorman is a name that has been synonymous with BVL throughout Mississippi for many years. Currently the BVL State Chair for the Hospitality State, Jolene is also a Mississippi WBA Director and Jackson WBA 1st Vice President and co-chair of the state BVL Committee.
Jolene worked as a nurse for more than 32 years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. Through this unique position at the hospital she was able to see just how important the BVL funds are to the lives of our nation's veterans. Beth Anderson, who works for BVL in Mississippi alongside Jolene has this to say, Her dedication to veterans and their care is evident in all aspects of Jolene's life. She continues to volunteer in every way to aid their cause and create awareness of their needs.
For all this and her on-going actions as a goodwill ambassador for BVL and our veterans, Jolene was a BVL Volunteer of the Month.
