BVL Float Featured in Veterans Day Parade 2004
Gillette (WY) WBA Organizes Fun Promotion for BVL

Our January 2005 Volunteers of the Month are a group of very creative and energetic BVL supporters who understand that in order to attract and keep BVL contributors, the public must be reminded of all the good that BVL does for our veterans. The first step in a successful BVL effort is getting the word out.

So when the community of Gillette, Wyoming began organizing a Veterans Day Parade, the Gillette Women's Bowling Association (GWBA) was quick to jump on the endeavor.

The Float Committee, consisting of five members of the GWBA met and got to work on the plans, and called the Gillette Bowling Association (men's association) which immediately volunteered to buy candy to throw out from the float. The truck/driver, hay bales and trailer were all donated. The float committee also identified children from the Gillette YABA to volunteer to walk along-side the float and hand out the candy.

The float featured bowling balls and pins, board games, sporting equipment, crafting supplies, etc. to depict the type of things BVL provides. The float also had signage reaffirming the mission of the BVL.

All of the float riders (both men and women) were bowlers that have served in the armed forces.

Committee chair Starla Kuhrt reported that the float and the event were a big success. “It was a cold-cold day, but very rewarding.  We are already making plans for next year!
